The currency we used was the Euro...it was accepted everywhere we went. We stayed on three islands..Boa Vista, Santiago and Fogo. Fogo is recommended as you can drive (or be driven) along the crater of an extinct volcano and even have a meal at a restaurant there. The only problem we found about Cape Verde was that sometimes the times between connecting flights to different islands was rather long. I can speak some Portuguese so that helped a lot with communication as English is not widely spoken on some islands.
