Rough Guide DIRECTIONS Barbados Is Like Having A local friend plan your trip! CommentsWendi Marriot says... This little book was perfect for sticking in pocket or purse and had loads of detailed information about all the great places to go in Barbados. The map had enough detail to guide us. The only shortcoming was a lack of bus directions, and this is a country with great bus service. We found the bus schedules on the internet. Posted on December 2, 2010 Doyle Florenz says... I've not completed the book but it looks to be ideal for travel. Take it with you, refer to it often. Plastic cover to protect, very informative, great map and pictures. Posted on December 4, 2010 Theodore Ladewig says... Let me say first of that this is a biased review I am first and foremost after all a Bajan. Most coffee books on Barbados often lack the necessary homegrown viewpoint and often present a postcard view which while stunning does not do enough to differentiate 'Bim' from the other lovely Caribbean islands that are collectively known as the British West Indies. On the other side many often present a glowing, albeit anachronistic view of a 'Little England' Barbados glossing over the impact of American culture and globalization as a whole. This book does not fall prey to these traps, it accurately and its totality presnets Barbados as is while praising our distinctiveness without becoming insular admitting our faults and still stands on its own and a stunning testament on travel art. This is a breathtaking book showing me pictures of places of my youth long gone and still present, on the technical side each photo is flawlessly executed and are excellent works of photographic art standing on their own and the writing of Peter Laurie explains our idiosycrancies with brevity, honesty and humor without it being demeaning or condenscending A great gift whether as a coffe book or a semi-informative guide for anyone at anytime.
