The music on this CD was described as being sort of a synthesis of music from Africa, Portugal and Brazil. This is a valid description. The music is gorgeous. Some of the most innovative and easy to listen-to music that I've heard in awhile. The fact that I do not understand the lyrics (Portuguese) did not detract. This is one of the best CDs in the entire Rough Guide collection.This is an incredible, melodic, haunting collection of Cape Verde tunes that fall somewhere between Portuguese Fado and the Afro-Brazilian sound of Bahia.If you are a fan of either genre (or even Delta blues), get this one. I've had this disk for 2 years, and it's loveliness never fades. The honest talent of the artists, and the optimism and humanity of their music continues to appeal, and make me happy, when so many other disks are forgotten. How is it that one little windswept archipeligo, has produced so much music that has impressed the world? (Both here in Israel, and in Europe Cape Verdean music is often heard on mainstream radio!)
