"The Real Venezuela" presents both the accomplishments and challenges that communities are facing today in Venezuela. The main thesis of the author that I gleaned from reading the book is that the old government structure (which is not revolutionary) and bureaucracy are generally doing all they can to disrupt community control and preserve their own power and privileges. He does see areas where the peoples struggles lead to advances.
It is a relatively easy book to read and it kept my interest throughout. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to understand what is going on with the revolution in Venezuela at the community level.
